Dot3D Data Security Policy

Dot3D Data Security Policy

Please be advised that our Dot3D software (dot3d.app/download) is an entirely local application. The only time an internet connection is required is for initial license activation (and at time of renewal). Otherwise, the software can fully function without any internet connection. All data files (3D point clouds, hi-res photos, etc.) are stored locally to the hard drive of the capture device, and where they go from there (or not) is completely in the control of the end user.

While users certainly have the option of sharing scan data via approved cloud platforms (same as they would with any other document/file/photo), this is not required at any time. Physical transfer via USB stick is a common and recommended workflow for many agencies.

Disclaimer: There is currently one completely optional feature that does require an internet connection. This is the ability to automatically reference scan data to the scanning device’s internal GPS location services, and to see those locations displayed on a map in the app. For obvious reasons, this does require a connection to function, but is totally optional, and is not required for any other aspect of the app to function properly. If used, it still does not involve any saving or storing of any data off the capture device.

In summary, as a Dot3D user you can trust that your Dot3D scan data is always 100% owned by you. Data security is fully in your control, and files should be managed in the same manner as any other secure photo or document would be.
