List of 3D Depth Cameras Supported by Dot3D
The following cameras are fully supported for 3D scanning in Dot3D:
1. DPI-10 (complete hardware kit with built-in, DP-Calibrated Carmine 1.082 sensor) - $2500 USD
or
DPI-X (smaller, mountable, but less rugged/complete version of DPI camera kit)
- $995 USD- 0.5-3.7 m range (1.5-12 ft). Recommended for room-scale indoor scanning in varied environments.
- Doesn't work in direct sunlight. Will work outdoors in shaded/overcast/morning/evening conditions.
- Most complete data capture indoors (performs well even with ambient lighting, dark blacks, metals).
- The DPI-10 version is only compatible with Microsoft Surface Go tablets.
2. DPI-10SR (complete hardware kit with built-in, DP-Calibrated Carmine 1.09 sensor) - $2500 USD or
DPI-XSR (smaller, mountable, but less rugged/complete version of DPI-SR camera kit)
- $995 USD- 0.25-2.0 m range (0.75-6.5 ft). Recommended for indoor scanning equipment/objects/tight spaces.
- Best option for capturing discrete details at close range. Not ideal for room-scale scanning.
- Doesn't work in direct sunlight. Will work outdoors in shaded/overcast/morning/evening conditions.
- The DPI-10SR version is only compatible with Microsoft Surface Go tablets.
3. iOS LiDAR Camera (embedded in iPad Pro 2020 & up, iPhone Pro 12 & up, iPhone Pro Max 12 & up)
- 0.33-5 m range (1-16 ft). Recommended option for outdoor scanning, large-scale scanning, and built-into-your-device convenience!
- Embedded into the back of supported Apple devices. External cameras are not supported on iOS.
- Longest range option for versatile 3D scanning of larger spaces and scenes, indoors and out!
- Excellent, constant tracking even across challenging areas via ARKit / IMU integration
- Very clean data (minimal noise / stray points), but less density / local detail than other options
- Ideal for larger areas, rapid 3D visualization, room-scale scanning, and outdoor use cases
- 0.33-4.2 m range (1-14 ft). Recommended Windows/Android option for outdoor scanning, or combined indoor/outdoor scanning.
- Will also work indoors. However, the data quality/accuracy is typically inferior to other DPI options.
- Longer range, wider FOV, and improved performance over their predecessors (D415, D435, D35i).
- Includes mounting kit, USB C-to-C cable, and custom calibration if ordered from DotProduct.
- Compatible with wide range of Windows/Android tablets/phones. USB 3.0+ port/cable required.
- Also compatible with DPI-10 and DPI-10SR hardware kits (as an add-on attachment).
- 0.5-3.0 m range (2-10 ft). Most affordable external camera option for scanning indoors or out.
- Delivers very accurate colors in the resulting data, even in direct sunlight.
- Will also work indoors. However, the data quality/accuracy is typically inferior to other DPI options.
- Compatible with wide range of Windows/Android tablets/phones. USB 3.0+ port/cable required.
- Also compatible with DPI-10 and DPI-10SR hardware kits.
- Not recommended over the other options (DPI/D455/L515/D415) for any 3D scanning purposes.
- Compatible with wide range of Windows/Android tablets/phones. USB 3.0+ port/cable required.
7. Intel® RealSense™ L515 LiDAR Camera - $589 USD (from
Intel while available)
*While the L515 LiDAR Camera is still supported, its production
HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED BY INTEL. For this reason it is
not recommended.*
- 0.5-6.0 m range (1.5-20 ft). Longest range option for indoor scanning when minimal ambient light.
- Does not work in direct sunlight. Also sensitive to ambient lighting (window light).
- Not ideal for dark surfaces (black/gray). Challenging lighting/surfaces can limit the range.
- Includes magnetic mounting kit and approved USB C-to-C cable if ordered from DotProduct ($495).
- Compatible with wide range of Windows/Android tablets/phones. USB 3.0+ port/cable required.
- Also compatible with DPI-10 and DPI-10SR hardware kits.
