To begin scanning in Dot3D, press the "New Scan" button located at the top left of the application.
This will open a live view of what your LiDAR camera is capturing.
On the right side of the screen, you will see a button to start scanning. The green circle, or "Scene Fitness Bar," around the button indicates how much geometry the camera is capturing. You should start your scan in a position where the bar is relatively high (almost a full circle). The flashlight button near the lower left of the screen allows you to switch on and off your device's flashlight for extra illumination.
To improve your scans, you can print and use "April Tag" targets (circled in red on the website
www.dotproduct3d.com/targets). Starting and finishing at these targets will automatically increase accuracy. You can also use the measured distance between tags later to further improve accuracy. April Tags and Targeting are addressed in more detail in other articles.
As you scan, colored points will fill in sections of your scene that the camera has captured, and any April Tags in your scene will light up orange, indicating that they have been recognized in the scan.
If you would like to manually tell the app to capture a frame of points, you can tap on any part of the screen that is not a button, insuring that any fine details you need are specifically captured during scanning.
To end your scan, press the same button you used to start it. You will then be shown an unoptimized preview of your scan.
