How to Import and Mesh Dot3D Point Cloud Data in RealityCapture (Capturing Reality)

RealityCapture is photogrammetry software for creating 3D models from photographs and/or laser scans. Here is a guide on one method to import and mesh Dot3D scan data in RealityCapture. Users of this workflow may also want to apply HD photographs separately. Here is an example of that.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1) Export an E57 point cloud file from Dot3D (Pro or Edit).

2) On the Workflow tab, click on "laser scan". It's extremely important tthat you set "Exact - use an existing registration" in order to maintain the registration of all the scan position saved by your scanner. RC converts your .PTX into its internal .lsp file.

3) On the Alignment tab, click on "Align images". This way RC creates a sparse point cloud of your DotProduct scans.

3) On the Mesh Model tab click on High Detail to generate a mesh model

4) On the Mesh Model tab click on texture: RC uses the images to project a texture on the 3D model.
