During a scan, you have the option to take High-Resolution reference photos for review later. Underneath the start and stop scanning button, there is another button with a picture of a camera on it.

You can tap this button while scanning to take a still photo with your camera. Additionally, you can hold it down for a view of what you will see in the image, before releasing to take the picture. The location data of the picture in the scan will be saved along side the photo, so you can reference/see where in the scene it is later. This can be useful for saving images of text that needs to be readable, or capturing a high quality image of anything you feel is needed.
